D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray’s office pushed back Monday against reports that attendance at the One City Summit that Gray championed fell short of expectations.
“Our initial goal was 1,000 [participants], and we are absolutely delighted that we got to 1,700,” spokesman Pedro Ribeiro said, who added that an extra 548 people participated online.
More than 3,200 people registered for the event, and organizers said they planned for about 60 percent of that number — about 1,900 — to actually attend. Gray’s office said that figure was for logistical planning and wasn’t indicative of their attendance goals for the summit.
