Examining Politics Podcast: Jim Jordan ‘enthusiastically’ backs Donald Trump

Count Rep. Jim Jordan among the converted.

After previously expressing reservations about Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy, the Ohio Republican said Wednesday that his party’s presumptive presidential nominee has his “enthusiastic” support in the race against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Jordan, speaking during a wide-ranging interview with the Washington Examiner’s “Examining Politics” podcast, is an influential conservative on Capitol Hill and leader of the House Freedom Caucus.

Despite earlier misgivings about Trump, Jordan was sold because of the New York businessman’s positions on abortion, guns and his view that Clinton lied about the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012.

“I’m going to pull [the lever.] I’m going to pull it enthusiastically because — look, he wasn’t my pick in the primary, everyone knows that. But I’ve said all along I’m going to support the nominee, and I’m going to work for him because, I know the alternative,” Jordan said.

Jordan is serving the special select committee in the House that was formed to investigate the Benghazi attacks. The congressman also sits on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
