Ossoff accused Apple of ‘abusive’ practices but invested millions

Sen. Jon Ossoff, a Democrat from Georgia, invested millions in Apple, a company he recently accused of profiting off of “abusive” practices.

The Peach State senator has a stake in Apple worth between $1 million and $5 million, according to a financial disclosure he filed on Monday and found by the Washington Free Beacon.

The disclosure follows his interaction with Apple chief compliance officer Kyle Andeer during a Senate antitrust hearing last month in which Ossoff asked why Apple had not done more to combat app store scams.

“Apple is making a cut on those abusive billing practices, are you not?” Ossoff asked.

Andeer, referencing the scams, said he didn’t believe that was the case and added, “If we find fraud — if we find a problem, we’re able to rectify that very quickly. And we do each and every day.”

When asked in a follow-up question, Andeer said it was his “understanding” that people who buy a counterfeit app get refunds.

Another filing from Ossoff, dated December 2019, showed that his stock in the company was worth between $500,001 and $1,000,000.

His office did not immediately return a request for comment.
