Gretchen Whitmer applauds new song praising her from Detroit rapper who previously sang about Trump assassination

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer lauded the so-called King of Parody Rap for a new song about her that praises her controversial response to the coronavirus.

Detroit rapper Gmac Cash released a song over the weekend called “Big Gretch,” which lauds measures Whitmer has taken during the pandemic despite protests that have broken out in the state over her stay-at-home orders.

“Big Gretch got ’em shook now,” Gmac Cash says in the song. “When it’s all over, you invited to the cookout.”

Whitmer responded on Sunday, saying she loves it and that she will see the rapper at a future cookout.

“It’s catching on in a big way,” the rapper, whose real name is Gerald Allen, said, according to the Detroit News. “It’s a big situation all around, so why not do a song about it?”

Gmac Cash previously released a song called “Trump Tryna Kill Us” that ostensibly joked about assassinating President Trump and called him “retarded.”

“I’m gonna go to Iran and ask if y’all will recruit me. Take them to the White House so y’all can shoot him,” the lyrics read.

The rapper also launched a GoFundMe page after “Big Gretch” caught on with listeners, garnering nearly 300,000 views on YouTube, to buy Whitmer a pair of Buffalo horn sunglasses valued at more than $2,500. The Detroit Free Press said of the glasses, “In Detroit, the popular frames are affectionately referred to as ‘Buffs’ or ‘white sticks; and earning them is a high honor among residents.”

Whitmer did not accept the sunglasses, and the $2,950 raised in donations will go to New Era Detroit, an organization aimed at “Empowering & Encouraging Blacks across the country to Unite and Invest in the communities that we live in.”

Whitmer’s office did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
