Clinton thanks Delaware for Joe Biden

Joe Biden has yet to endorse her, but Hillary Clinton sang the vice president’s praises in his home state Monday.

“The vice president’s distinguished record of service and his love of Delaware and his passion for our country is truly inspiring,” Clinton told supporters at a campaign rally in Wilmington the day before the state’s Democrats head to the polls to vote for president.

While Biden and his wife Jill cast their votes in the Democratic primary via early ballot last Friday, they haven’t said who they voted for. Biden has frequently commented on the state of the race, however, since he decided against a presidential bid himself.

During an interview with the New York Times last Thursday, Biden praised Bernie Sanders for thinking outside the box in his policy platforms. But Biden has also repeatedly slipped and referred to the next Democratic nominee as “her.”

After much speculation that he would run for the Democratic nomination, Biden put the rumors to rest in October, citing the Clinton campaign’s rapidly growing infrastructure as too difficult to compete with. Biden has since told reporters that he “regrets” his decision not to run, but plans on supporting whomever the eventual nominee is.

Clinton leads Sanders 49.3-26.0 in the statewide Delaware polling averages, but Biden’s support could seal the deal.

“That family has done so much for so many people,” Clinton said of the Bidens. “So I’m so grateful to be in this state and say what’s in my heart about the Biden family, because it really is an extraordinary family. Thank you Delaware for sharing them with us.”
