Montgomery County’s draft of the Long Branch sector plan is now available for public comment. The plan for the neighborhood in East Silver Spring focuses on development around the expected Purple Line stations through the area and creating a more walkable community.
The neighborhood around Flower Avenue between Langley Park and Takoma Park is one that might be described by a hopeful real estate agent as “unique and charming.” Simply put, the area has established character through its family-owned businesses but also suffers from lack of planning and has a seediness that comes from being neglected.
The draft of the sector plan includes preserving housing affordability while allowing for more housing options, retaining the small business while encouraging new ones, improving pedestrian safety, revitalizing the Arliss Town Center and establishing the Flower Avenue Shopping Center and Theater as a historic resource.
A meeting where the public can comment to the county planning board is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Long Branch Library. Residentsalso can comment via e-mail to: MCP-Long [email protected].
