Hillary Clinton’s campaign unveiled a new web ad Wednesday that says Mike Pence had a “hard time” defending Donald Trump in Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate.
“At the VP debate, Mike Pence seemed to discover he was Donald Trump’s running mate,” reads text onscreen during the ad. “He had a hard time with the news.”
The ad showed clips of Clinton’s running mate criticizing Trump and Pence for praising Vladimir Putin’s leadership, and for Trump saying he wanted a deportation force, an idea Trump has since abandoned. Kaine made these and other charges, prompting Pence to say repeatedly that they aren’t true.
The end of the ad closes with text that reads, “It’s okay, Mike. We’d have a hard time defending him, too.” Kaine will campaign in Philadelphia on Wednesday in the aftermath of the vice presidential debate.
