BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Dinu Patriciu, an emblematic politician from Romania’s early post-communist years whose later career as an oil tycoon was marred by legal troubles, died Tuesday after a series of illnesses. He was 64.

Patriciu died Tuesday in a London hospital, said former Prime Minister Petre Roman, a family friend. Roman said he had been ill with cancer and liver disease. His family said that he died from a lung infection and was surrounded by family members.
