Indiana Gov. Mike Pence met with Ted Cruz Thursday afternoon during the senator’s visit to the Hoosier State.
The Republican governor has carved out time to speak with the three remaining Republican presidential candidates before the state’s primary May 3.
A spokesperson for Pence described the meeting at the governor’s residence with the Tea Party Texan similarly to his visit with GOP front-runner Donald Trump a day earlier.
“Governor Pence was pleased to welcome Senator Cruz to the Hoosier state. The Governor touted Indiana’s economic progress and pro-growth economic policies while noting the creation of more than 130,000 new private sector jobs since he took office. He stressed his desire to have a partner in the White House who will help advance policies on the federal level that will enable states like Indiana to build on this progress. Governor Pence firmly believes that by addressing these issues on the national level, Indiana can build on its recent momentum and continue to be a great place to live, work and raise a family,” Kara Brooks, Pence spokeswoman, said in a statement.
Pence also touted a desire to work with Trump on economic issues, should he win the nomination and the November election, according to the statement his office gave Wednesday. Trump also met with the governor at his home, but was joined by endorsee New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
He is expected to meet with Ohio Gov. John Kasich next week.
