President Trump declared a state of emergency in Florida ahead of Hurricane Dorian’s landfall.
Trump made the declaration on Friday, freeing up federal aid to flow into Florida to help repair the damage from a potential Category 3 hurricane.
“It’s looking like it could be an absolute monster,” Trump said in a video posted to Twitter Thursday. “We’re ready. We have the best people in the world ready, and they are going to help you.”
Trump said that the federal government is already amassing resources in preparation of the storm. Emergency crews are standing by to conduct rescue operations after Dorian passes.

Dorian is expected to make landfall over Labor Day weekend with sustained winds as high as 130 miles per hour. A storm with such energy could leave areas severely damaged and uninhabitable for months, according to the National Hurricane Center.
