Disney cut a scene from the 1999 classic Toy Story 2 that takes on a different context in the era of #MeToo.
In the re-release of the Toy Story series last month, Disney quietly cut an outtake from the end of the film in the “blooper reel.”
The scene depicts Stinky Pete, otherwise known as “the Prospector,” in his collector’s box with two Barbies when Woody turns his box around and catches the old man with the twin dolls.
“And so you two are absolutely identical?” Pete asks the Barbies. “You know, I’m sure I could get you a part in Toy Story 3.”
The Prospector then realizes the camera is on him and says, “I’m sorry, are we back? All right girls, lovely talking to you! Yes, any time you’d like some tips on acting, I’d be glad to chat with you.”
His downward gaze then lingers on the two Barbies as they exit the box.
The blooper seemingly alludes to Hollywood’s “casting couch” culture, in which powerful producers like Harvey Weinstein elicit sexual favors from actresses in exchange for career advancement.
The scene was completely deleted from all 4K Blu-ray releases and new digital downloads in the month of June.
