Twitter permanently suspended the account of Iran’s supreme leader after it posted a video calling for a drone strike on former President Donald Trump.
Twitter suspended @khameneisite, which Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei uses to post an assortment of statements and clips. The account posted an animated clip of a drone strike on Jan. 3 that reflected the Middle Eastern state’s desire for revenge regarding the assassination of top Iranian official Qasem Soleimani in January 2020.
“The account referenced has been permanently suspended for violating our ban evasion policy,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement.

Despite this permanent suspension, Khamenei has other accounts for posting his messages in various languages.
The video, titled “Revenge is Definite,” features a 3D animation of the former president and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo playing golf at what appears to be Mar-a-Lago. A drone operator flies a drone into the proximity of Trump. The operator then hacks Trump’s phone and sends him a message, “Soleimani’s murderer and the one who gave the order will pay the price.” The clip ends right as an aerial drone prepares to fire at Trump.
The clip was released “on the eve of the second anniversary of the martyrdom of General Haj Qasem Soleimani and the accompanying martyrs based on the statements of Ayatollah Khamenei about Martyr Soleimani,” a statement on Khamenei’s website reads. It was also released as part of a contest to remember the killing of Soleimani.
These are not the first remarks made criticizing Trump for ordering the killing of Soleimani. During a televised address, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that Trump and Pompeo must be prosecuted for killing Soleimani, describing the former president as an “aggressor” and “murderer.”

The Pentagon defended the decision to kill Iran’s top general, saying that Trump ordered the attack as Soleimani was “actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”
The White House expressed concerns on Jan. 9 about Iran potentially plotting the assassination of former Trump administration officials.
