Teen stabbed riding Metrobus

A teen was stabbed in the abdomen on a Metrobus late Tuesday night while traveling in Anacostia, the latest case of youth violence to hit the transit system.

The bus driver noticed riders hustling off the W6 bus on Pomeroy Road near Bangor Street between Fort Stanton Park and the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site around 10:45 p.m., according to Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.

A teen then walked to the front of the bus, sat behind the driver and said he had been stabbed, she said.

He was taken to George Washington University Hospital for treatment. Police were still investigating the case Wednesday morning, she said.

The transit agency has been fighting a surge in youth-related violence and crime. Metro arrested 507 juveniles in 2010, one-fourth of all arrests and a 9 percent increase over 2009, according to the agency.
