A top aide to Dr. Ben Carson denied a report that President-elect Trump asked him to run the Department of Health and Human Services.
Armstrong Williams, a top adviser to the famed neurosurgeon, told the Washington Examiner that Carson was never offered a specific spot in the administration, but rather had his pick of the litter.
“Dr. Carson was never offered a specific position,” Williams said, adding that Trump told Carson, “‘Tell us what you want, Ben.'”
Williams said Carson denied the offer, arguing that he was not a good fit due to his lack of experience in running a governmental agency, although he added that the “table was wide open” for Carson to work within the administration in nearly any role he wanted.
“He wanted nothing,” Williams added, referring to Carson’s desire to work outside the government.
Circa initially reported that Carson was offered the opportunity to run HHS.
