Facebook shuts down pages associated with white nationalist Richard Spencer

Facebook shut down two pages affiliated with outspoken white nationalist Richard Spencer, according to reports Friday.

The pages for the National Policy Institute, a group in which Spencer is president, and the website altright.com, where he is an editor, were removed from the platform this week, Vice News reports.

The removal comes just days after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified to Congress about his company’s privacy policies in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

During his testimony, Zuckerberg testified that Facebook seeks to ban hate groups from their website.

“We do not allow hate groups on Facebook, overall. So, if there’s a group that their primary purpose, or a large part of what they do, is spreading hate, we will ban them from the platform overall,” he said.

Twitter removed Spencer from their platform in 2016, but later restored his account without a verification badge.
