Schiff warns Trump: ‘Don’t waste our time’ firing Mueller

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee is sending a stern warning President Trump over reports that he is weighing firing special counsel Robert Mueller.

“If President fired Bob Mueller, Congress would immediately re-establish independent counsel and appoint Bob Mueller. Don’t waste our time,” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., tweeted Monday.

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy told the PBS Newshour Monday that Trump is looking into firing Robert Mueller as special counsel investigating Russia’s role in last year’s election, after visiting the White House earlier in the day.

“I think it’s pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently,” Ruddy said.

Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, says any effort by Trump to fire Mueller would constitute as obstruction of jusice and further validate his calls to impeach the president.

“President Trump by his actions continues to validate the reasons why he should be impeached. Currently, President Trump and his lawyers have considered terminating Mr. Mueller, the special counsel appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was appointed by President Trump. Does the President not trust his hiring decisions?,” Green said in a statement Monday.
