Biden Takes the Oath

Vice President Joe Biden has taken the oath of office for the second time. “At 8:21am, Joe Biden took the oath of office for a second term a Vice President, surrounded by family at the VP residence at the Naval Observatory,” the pool reporter notes.

Supreme Court associate justice Sonia Sotomayor administered the oath of office to Biden.

“There are 120 guests attending the ceremony, pool is told. Just a few moments ago your pooler greeted New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan as she arrived with her husband and daughter,” the pool reporter notes. Hassan’s attendance, since she is governor of New Hampshire, the state that traditionally holds the first in the nation primary, will likely fuel speculation that Biden is considering a 2016 presidential run.

Biden took the oath with his hand on a family bible. “On Sunday and Monday, Vice President Biden will be sworn in using the Biden Family Bible, which is five inches thick, has a Celtic cross on the cover and has been in the Biden family since 1893. He used it every time he was sworn in as a US Senator and when he was sworn in as Vice President in 2009. His son Beau used it when he was sworn in as Delaware’s attorney general,” an anonymous official in the vice president’s office tells the pool reporter.
