EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois man faces up to 30 years in prison after admitting his role in pummeling a man with a hammer and metal bar during a home invasion.

Thirty-five-year-old Ricky Andrews pleaded guilty in Madison County to a felony count of home invasion. Prosecutors dropped charges of attempted murder as part of a plea deal.

Authorities say Andrews and Robert Kelly stormed a Granite City apartment in February 2012 and severely beat 35-year-old Michael Cuvar. The victim was left paralyzed.

Forty-nine-year-old Kelly pleaded guilty last year to a home invasion charge and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors also dropped an attempted murder count in that case.
