Reigning champion Miki Sudo won her sixth consecutive women’s title in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest after chowing down on 31 sandwiches.

While the competitive eater, who was born in New York but spent part of her childhood in Japan, notched another victory by eating 4.5 more hot dogs than her nearest competitor, it was 10 off her 41-dog personal best.
“The heat just distracted me, but it’s because of my great competitors who supported me along this journey that I was able to get this win. It was just really hot, and I didn’t do my training right,” Sudo, 33, said after her Fourth of July win.
The hot-dog-eating record is currently held by Sonya Thomas, who ate 45 hot dogs within the 10-minute time limit in 2012.
The event took place at New York City’s Coney Island boardwalk, with the men’s 11-time champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut holding onto his crown later in the day. Sudo took home the Pepto-Bismol-pink belt while Chestnut earned the mustard-yellow belt.
