Nearly 6 in 10 Americans dislike or hate party frontrunners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, according to an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll released Tuesday.
Fifty-eight percent of those polled did not like or hated Clinton, while 63 percent said the same for Trump. The two were nearly tied for admiration, with four in ten voters saying they admire or like Clinton and 36 percent saying the same for Trump.
Resistance to the opposing candidate was also the predominant reason for supporting Clinton or Trump. Thirty-three percent said that they supported Clinton because they were opposed to Trump, while 36 percent said that they supported Trump out of opposition to Clinton.
The frontrunners received similar reception in a Sunday NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, at 58 and 54 percent unfavorability respectively – the lowest ratings in the poll’s history.
A Washington Post/ABC News poll released Sunday further underscores the pair’s unpopularity, with Clinton and Trump tied at 57 percent unfavorability.
