Vice President Mike Pence said special counsel Robert Mueller’s comments last week about his report amounted to an announcement of “case closed,” arguing that Americans want congress to move off of investigating President Trump.
“Frankly, I was pleased to see the special counsel announce that the investigation is over. Case closed,” Pence said in an interview aired on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”
“The special counsel sent his report, and he concluded there was no collusion and after review of the facts, the Department of Justice confirmed there was no collusion, no obstruction,” Pence said. “I think the American people, the American people want to see this Congress move on, move on to the things that are making a difference in their lives.”
Pence said he doesn’t see why Democrats would try to bring about impeachment proceedings against Trump. He acknowledged that Russia did interfere in the 2016 presidential election and said that measures have been taken to prevent that from happening in the future.
“These questions were raised about election interference, and we know that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. We don’t believe it affected the outcome in any way, but we’ve held them accountable for that,” Pence said. “We’ve taken steps to ensure that doesn’t happen again.”
“The matter is entirely over; it’s entirely closed,” he added.
