Emma Watson facing allegations of antisemitism after pro-Palestine Instagram post

Actress Emma Watson is facing allegations of antisemitism after the star made a pro-Palestinian Instagram post on Monday.

The post consists of an image of a Palestinian protest with the words “Solidarity is a verb” overlaid on it.

The quote is from Sara Ahmed, an academic, and the full quotation is provided in the caption.

“Solidarity does not assume that our struggles are the same struggles, or that our pain is the same pain, or that our hope is for the same future,” it reads. “Solidarity involves commitment, and work, as well as the recognition that even if we do not have the same feelings, or the same lives, or the same bodies, we do live on common ground.”

As of Wednesday, the post has garnered over 1.2 million likes, but the comments are divided.

Watson’s post has also garnered criticism and scrutiny from several Israeli politicians.

Danny Danon, the country’s former ambassador to the United Nations, gave his thoughts on the post with one sentence on Twitter.

“10 points from Gryffindor for being an antisemite,” he posted.

The comment alluded to Watson’s star role as Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” films.

Israel’s current ambassador to the U.N., Gilad Erdan, echoed Danon’s sentiment.

“Fiction may work in Harry Potter but it does not work in reality,” Erdan posted to Twitter. “If it did, the magic used in the wizarding world could eliminate the evils of Hamas (which oppresses women & seeks the annihilation of Israel) and the PA (which supports terror). I would be in favor of that!”
