Pregnant woman dies after getting hair caught in machine during job interview: Report

A pregnant woman died after attending a job interview in Belarus in which she was strangled by her own long hair that was caught in a machine, tearing off a part of her scalp, according to a report.

Umida Nazarova, 21, was touring a factory in Borisov when a machine caught her loose hair. Her mother, Olga, said her hair “got wrapped around her neck and she was pulled into the mechanism.” Nazarova died 20 days later after failing to regain consciousness, the Daily Mail reported.

“An employee, who was showing her how the equipment operates, paused to make a record in a register,” the Belarus Investigative Committee said. “When she turned her head, she saw the woman already lying on the floor unconscious, her hair was tangled in the machine.”

The factory plant paid for Nazarova’s funeral, and a court sentenced an unnamed plant head of production for “failure to fulfill her official duties due to dishonest and negligent attitude … causing the death of a person,” the report said.

Nazarova’s father, Dmitry, said he wondered why the factory did not give his daughter something to cover her long hair. He claimed his daughter was seven weeks pregnant, saying “they took two lives.”

Olga Nazarova said her daughter “wanted to become a mother” and that she and her husband Dmitry “wanted to celebrate her wedding, and collect a grandson or granddaughter from the hospital.”
