Cheetahs know how to party

It can be tough to come up with a new and different theme for your birthday party every year. Some people find it so tough that eventually they give up altogether.

Here?s an idea that might get your creative juices flowing: Have a cheetah party.

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore supports the work of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, an international wildlife conservation organization dedicated to saving the cheetah from extinction.

If you go to CCF’s Web site at www.cheetah.org and click on the Kids4Cheetahs link, you can read stories about how kids all over the United States are working to help this beautiful but endangered cat. One way is to have a cheetah birthday party.

The obvious activity for a cheetah birthday party: races.

“Cheetahs are perfectly designed for speed,” said Linda Pill, one of the zoo’s collection managers. “The first time I saw a cheetah in full stride, I was speechless.”

You and your friends could also design cheetah T-shirts or make a cheetah poster. Instead of a regular birthday cake, serve a cheetah cake. And instead of presents, ask your friends to bring a small cash donation. Together, you could raise money to help CCF or to adopt a cheetah at the zoo. Follow the Adopt an Animal link on the Zoo’s Web site.
