Conway: Trump is ‘receiving information’ about illegal voters

Kellyanne Conway on Friday seemed to defend President-elect Trump’s remark that “millions” of people voted illegally, by saying Trump has been hearing evidence of illegal voting from election officials.

“He’s been receiving information about the irregularities and about the illegal votes,” said Conway, who managed Trump’s campaign, on ABC News.

Conway was asked if Trump’s statement about illegal voters was “true,” and while she didn’t offer more details, she said his remark reflects “the way he feels.”

“He is messaging to his supporters and the rest of the country the way he feels, just the way the Clinton team is pretending that the scapegoat in this election is [FBI Director] Jim Comey, pretending the lack of an economic message for those who feel that their jobs are being threatened is sufficient,” she said.

Conway also repeated that Trump has moved on from the idea about pursuing charges against his election rival, Hillary Clinton, but did seem to say that door isn’t completely closed off.

“There will be officials who are in charge of such things in a Trump administration who may look at that again, but Donald Trump made very clear last week as the president-elect that he’s moved on from that, that he’s … more focused on things like healthcare, immigration, bringing jobs back to America,” she said.

When asked if that means Trump might in fact pursue prosecution, Conway said she was “not suggesting that at all.”
