Pelosi and Schumer say Biden should run in 2024

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said President Joe Biden should run for reelection in 2024.

In a joint interview with CNN’s Jamie Gangel, the two leading Democrats discussed a wide variety of topics in what will perhaps be the last joint interview in which the two both hold leading positions, as Pelosi plans to step down as speaker. When pressed as to whether they believe Biden should run for president in 2024, given his waning popularity, the two doubled down in their support.

“I think President Biden has done an excellent job as president of the United States,” Pelosi said. “I hope that he does seek reelection. He’s a person with a great vision for our country. He’s been involved for a long time, so he has great knowledge of the issues and the challenges we face. And he’s the most empathetic president. He connects with the American people.”

“The vision, the knowledge, the strategic thinking is all here. The empathy is from the heart. And I think that he’s been a great president,” she added.

“Yes, he’s done an excellent, excellent job. And, if he runs, I’m going to support him all the way,” Schumer said, echoing Pelosi’s statement.

Biden appears poised to run for reelection in 2024.

“I think everybody wants me to run, but we’re going to have discussions about it. I hope Jill and I get a little time to actually sneak away for a week around, between Christmas and Thanksgiving. And my guess is it would be early next year we make that judgment,” he said recently.
