DHS to issue further implementation guidance on immigration ban

The Department of Homeland Security will provide further guidance on Tuesday for law enforcement officials and federal agencies that are scrambling to implement President Trump’s executive order on immigration.

DHS Secretary John Kelly, Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner Kevin McAleenan, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Thomas Homan and Office of Intelligence and Analysis Acting Undersecretary David Glawe will discuss enforcement of the president’s directive during a press conference at noon ET, officials announced early Tuesday morning.

The Trump administration has come under fire for issuing the order late last Friday and refusing to consult agency heads and law enforcement officials beforehand, which created confusion and chaos at airports across the U.S. over the weekend as refugees and visa holders were detained for hours before being granted entry into the country.

The executive action has suspended immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries and halted the Syrian refugee program for 120 days, until more advanced security screening measures have been put into practice.
