Newly minted D.C. Councilman Kenyan McDuffie will be chairman of a new committee overseeing the District Department of Employment Services, sources tell The Washington Examiner. The new committee is the result of a reshuffling Chairman Kwame Brown plans to introduce during Tuesday’s legislative sesssion.
Brown also is moving the economic development committee, currently under his purview along with education, and giving it to at-large Councilman Michael Brown, who heads the housing committee. The combo committee will be renamed the Committee on Economic Development and Housing.
The third change will be made to Ward 4 Councilwoman Muruiel Bowser’s Committee on Government Operations. Her panel will get jurisdiction over the Department of General Services, a new D.C. agency created last year.
The chairman issued a memo to colleagues Monday but did not indicate then which committees he would be reassigning.
