Movie producer says Trump hijacked score from ‘Air Force One’

The producer of the 1997 drama “Air Force One” says Donald Trump is hijacking the film’s soundtrack.

Gail Katz, who produced the movie, told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday that Trump never asked the filmmakers for permission to use movie’s infamous score. She has written a letter to the Republican presidential nominee asking his campaign to stop playing the score at future events.

“The music for Air Force One was composed and conducted by the legendary Oscar-winning film composer Jerry Goldsmith,” Katz wrote in the letter. “Jerry’s music was hijacked in a misguided attempt to associate Trump with the film and the president in that film.”

Trump has been using the movie’s score at numerous campaign events nationwide for months. He most recently used it when he walked on stage to deliver his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last week.

Katz is not the first person to ask Trump’s campaign to stop playing music, but depending on how the music is licensed, she may not be able to do much more than ask.

Goldsmith, who died at age 75 in 2004, received a total of 18 Oscar nominations for his work in film and television scoring. He was also nominated for six Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globe Awards and four British Academy Film Awards.
