Another high-profile Trump supporter breaks with president: Nigel Farage to campaign for Roy Moore in Alabama

Nigel Farage is throwing his support behind Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore with the Brexit figure set to speak at a campaign rally in Fairhope, Ala., on Monday.

The event will also feature ousted former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and “Duck Dynasty” television star Phil Robertson, taking place on the eve of the election to decide who replaces U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the upper chamber.

Farage’s endorsement of Moore represents a break from President Trump, who stumped for GOP incumbent and Republican establishment favorite Luther Strange in Huntsville on Friday.

Several high-profile Trump supporters — former aides like Bannon and Sebastian Gorka, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — have campaigned for Moore instead of Strange.

By contrast, Moore has attracted support from Trump’s base, particularly as a vocal opponent of socially progressive issues like same-sex marriage.

Farage’s appearance, speculated to have been arranged by ex-aide and Breitbart’s British editor Raheem Kassam, is still expected to be pro-Trump to help the president keep his election promise of draining the Washington, D.C. swamp, according to The Guardian.

The collaboration with Breitbart also signals that Bannon is saying true to his pledge to go to war against GOP figures trying to undermine Trump’s populist, economic nationalist message.
