Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said she is “definitely thinking” about making a bid for president in 2020.
“I’m going to think about it over the holidays with my children and my husband, and I will make a decision soon,” the New York Democrat told CNN in an interview set to air Saturday evening.
Gillibrand said that she felt a great calling to “restore what is good in our world,” especially “in these moments of darkness,” “suffering,” and “great division.”
“I aspire for our country to recognize the beauty of our diversity in some point in the future. And I hope some day we have a woman president. … A more inclusive America is a stronger America,” Gillibrand said.
Recently, Gillibrand faced backlash for a tweet where she said “our future is female,” and some claimed she was putting a gender on success and excluded men.
The senator is part of the still-growing list of potential contenders for the Democratic nominee for president in the 2020 elections. Earlier this week, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro said he formed an exploratory committee and will announce in January if he will run.
