RNC Day 3 Schedule

The fallout from the convention disruptions caused by Hurricane Gustav continues to plague schedulers at the Republican National Convention. But sources said the schedule would likely include the following:

* Vice presidential nominee-to-be Sarah Palin. Until a few election cycles ago, vice presidential nominees waited to speak until the final night of the convention, before the presidential nominee. That arrangement is still possible this year, but original plans are for Palin to speak tonight.

* Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York. Originally set to speak on Tuesday, Giuliani fired up the Republican convention four years ago and is expected to put on a similarly impassioned performance. Giuliani still might be moved to help warm up the delegates for John McCain on Thursday night.

* Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Some televised reports say that Romney staffers have been privately critical of the choice of Palin for vice president. If earlier plans hold for him to speak tonight, it will give him a chance to urge unity and show enthusiasm for the ticket.

* Former eBay Chief Executive Officer Meg Whitman. A big success in the business world, she too was subject to speculation as McCain’s running mate — and is reportedly considering a future run for governor of California.

* The official roll-call vote on McCain’s nomination. Once the highlight of national party conventions, featuring great drama about who would win the nod, the roll-call now is a mere formality. But without it, the nomination would not be official by law.
