Annapolis Police Chief Joseph Johnson apologized for his officers raiding the wrong apartment during a drug bust last week.
“We have apologized several times,” Johnson said, referring to officers who apologized to the residents of 905 Primrose Road after they realized they were suppose to raid 901 Primrose. “We are sorry for the mistake.”
It was the first public apology from the department since Wednesday night?s raid.
But Johnson criticized media reports of the officers? conduct and the department?s handling of the incident, asking the media to “slow down their collective rush to judgment of these officers.” Published reports allege that the officers kicked a man in the groin and pushed down a pregnant woman during the raid.
Police are still investigating the incident and would not comment on the allegations. Johnson said if there was police brutality, he would personally and publicly apologize.
