They range from a former Baltimore police detective to a city school teacher. They count among their ranks a chief executive officer, a therapist and a restaurant owner. They even include a Republican.
The 10 men and women who have applied for the Baltimore City Council?s open District 6 seat represent a diverse cross-section of the Northwest Baltimore district, said City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who chairs the committee formed to fill the seat she vacated in January.
“The field of candidates before the nominating committee represents the diversity of the district itself,” she said.
The 10 applicants, all Democrats except for one, were scheduled to come before the committee Wednesday evening.

» Deborah Ramsey is a former Baltimore police detective and the owner and CEO of We The People Document Services.
» Brandon Scott, a Republican, is a school specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters and an organizer for The Brothers? Circle.
» Eric Smith is a primary therapist at Baltimore Behavioral Health.
» Charese Williams is a teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools.
After the public hearing, the nominating committee may conduct interviews with any of the applicants. The committee has 30 days to make a recommendation to the full council. In addition to Rawlings-Blake, the committee is composed of City Council Vice President Robert Curran and eight other council members.
