Bill Maher says Trump is a success and slams young people embracing communism

Talk show host Bill Maher made several revelations on his most recent Club Random podcast, including that President Donald Trump has largely been successful in his second term.

Maher made the comments during a conversation with his podcast guest, Fargo and Shameless actor William H. Macy, about Taylor Swift. Maher and Macy discussed music over the year, as well as the pop singer, when Maher admitted his fondness for Swift but lamented that he did not understand her music.

“I think she’s just an admirable human being, and I don’t get the music,” Maher bemoaned. “And that’s all I’ll say.”

He recognized her successful run as a musician and then pivoted to Trump.

“I always say this, you cannot ever deny success,” Maher said. “You just have to give your respect even if it’s not your thing. Have the humility to give it up for enormous success on any level.”

“Trump, not my choice, didn’t vote for him, I can’t deny the success,” Maher added.

“I can’t either,” Macy said. “And he’s the president.”

They discussed a framed picture hanging on a wall in the studio that featured a list of the 56 insults Trump has called Maher over the years. The president autographed it when the two met in the White House earlier this year.

“Did you give him that, and he signed it for you?” Macy asked.

“Correct,” Maher replied.

“Oh, that’s f***ing brilliant,” Macy said.

Earlier in the show, the two discussed their age — Maher is 69, and Macy is 75 — and today’s youth.

“One of the things I like about getting old is hearing the stupid things my young friends say,” Macy said. “It makes me feel so good.”

Maher replied, “It should, because you’re right. Just because something is new doesn’t make it automatically better, which is what they seem to think.”

“You know, a lot of the younger people are all excited about communism,” Maher said. “Well, that’s because you’re dumb and you didn’t study this. It’s not all your fault. They just didn’t teach it to you. But us older people know they tried it, and it was a f***ing nightmare.”

Macy responded, “A nightmare, a murderous nightmare.”

“Communism is a murderous, soul-sucking night[mare],” Maher added. “Even if they didn’t kill you, your soul was just quashed. You couldn’t get ahead. Everything was corrupt because it didn’t conform to human nature. Humans are selfish. Capitalism, with all its problems, is by far the best system, and it has lifted the most people out of poverty than anything.”

“We’ve made amazing progress with what they call extreme poverty, like a-dollar-a-day people,” Maher said. “Like just in the 25 years since this century began, that’s been cut down to only a few percent, when it was like 15.”

“That’s very big progress,” Maher said.
