2 injured in explosion in Austin, Texas neighborhood as search continues for person mailing package bombs

Two people were injured Sunday night after explosions went off in Austin, Texas, where police are searching for someone who has mailed explosives to multiple people and killed two others.

Austin police reported at 10:16 p.m. Sunday they were responding to an explosion in a neighborhood outside of the city center.

According to Austin emergency medical services, two men were injured in the explosion but were not facing life-threatening injuries. The men were reported to be in their 20s, authorities said.

The explosion comes as the Texas capital is on edge following a series of exploding packages sent to homes in the area.

A 17-year-old boy was killed and a woman in her 40s was injured in two separate incidents last week. Prior to that, a 39-year-old man had been killed while picking up a package outside his home in the city.

Both individuals opened packages sent to their homes, which subsequently exploded. Police have been searching for the individual who sent the packages but to this point have not found many answers.

Earlier on Sunday, Austin police increased the reward for information on the attacker to $100,000. Police reported earlier Sunday they were following hundreds of leads and have not ruled out the bombings being a hate crime because all of the people targeted up to that point were black or of Hispanic origin.
