Man drives car into security gate near White House 

An individual crashed a car into the Secret Service security gate outside the White House on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at 10:37 p.m. at the security checkpoint located at 17th and E. St NW, near the Eisenhower Executive Officer Building, according to reports. The crash caused a temporary lockdown in the area.

The driver has not been identified, and no injuries have been reported. After the crash, the Secret Service released a statement on social media announcing that the driver had been arrested and that an investigation was underway.  

“At approximately 10:37 p.m., an individual drove a vehicle into the Secret Service vehicle gate located at 17th & E St, NW, in Washington, DC,” said the U.S. Secret Service Office of Communications. 

“The individual was arrested & the vehicle was assessed and deemed safe,” added Secret Service. “Our investigation into the cause of this collision is ongoing.”
