Gingrich: It’s time John Kasich ‘got on the Trump bandwagon’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called on Ohio Gov. John Kasich to stop holding out and jump on board in support of presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s candidacy.

Gingrich, who was appearing at Trump’s Cincinnati rally to introduce the real estate mogul, said that while he is friends with Kasich, it’s time that he came out in support of Trump despite a bruising primary, which saw Kasich finish fourth overall.

“By the way, your governor is a good friend of mine,” Gingrich told the crowd of supporters. “Although it’s about time he got on the Trump bandwagon.”

The Ohio governor has notably refused to support Trump after losing the nomination to him. It is also unknown as to whether Kasich will attend the Republican National Convention in his home state in two week’s time. CNN reported Tuesday that Kasich is not seeking a speaking slot at the four-day GOP event.

Kasich is one of a group of those who ran in the GOP primary field who have yet to come out and support Trump and may not do so prior to November. Kasich is joined by the likes of Sen. Ted Cruz, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Sen. Lindsey Graham.
