National Cathedral to offer tours of underground garage

Washington National Cathedral officials will give a tour this week of its new underground bus and car garage — the first of its kind in D.C.

The tour, to take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, will allow participants to talk with Cathedral representatives, tourism officials and bus drivers about thegarage’s effect on roadways, surrounding neighborhoods, tourism and worship services, according to a news release.

Construction for the $34 million underground bus garage project began in summer 2005.

About 180,000 Cathedral visitors per year arrive by bus, according to officials.
