D.C. Deputy Mayor Victor Reinoso was robbed at gunpoint on his way home in his Takoma neighborhood Monday.

Police said Reinoso had exited the Metro station at about 7:30 p.m. and was walking on the 6800 block of Fifth Street when two men approached him. One of the men showed a handgun.

The robbers took Reinoso’s cell phone, wallet and briefcase. He was unharmed.

Police later found Reinoso’s empty wallet and briefcase at Third and Sheridan streets. Police were still looking for the suspects. They did not provide a description of the suspects Tuesday.

Reinoso is the deputy mayor for education, a key position in Mayor Adrian Fenty’s takeover of the city’s schools. Reinoso is scheduled to face the D.C. Council for his confirmation hearing today.
