The number of flight reductions at 40 airports throughout the country is expected to remain at only 6% instead of the 10% total that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced last week. 

The reason for the shift is due to a larger number of air traffic controllers returning to work than previously expected, the Department of Transportation announced, the Associated Press reported. The change comes as the federal government shutdown, the longest in U.S. history, ended on Wednesday after President Donald Trump signed the government funding bill into law.
