WASHINGTON — One hundred fifty crocheters from across the country contributed to a piece of artwork portraying Vice President Kamala Harris for International Women’s Day.
The colorful display was designed by artist London Kaye and displays “I’m speaking,” a reference to a moment in Harris’s vice presidential debate with then-Vice President Mike Pence in October.

The artwork is part of Kaye’s Love Across the USA campaign. Standing at 16 feet tall and 36 feet wide, it’s set up outside the Officina restaurant at the Wharf in Washington’s Southwest Waterfront. A website for the project includes pictures of each of the crocheters and his or her portion of the project.

“The moment was right to come together as crocheters and as a country after the extreme division and loss we have endured,” the website stated. “We are celebrating the first female Vice President, and the first of Black and South Asian descent, Kamala Harris!”
“It’s so beautiful,” one enthusiastic spectator told the Washington Examiner.
