The new healthcare, clean energy, and tax bill expanded the tax credit for zero-emission vehicles while also limiting eligibility to those vehicles assembled in North America.
The assembly requirement goes into effect immediately, knocking some foreign-assembled models that were eligible for the credit on Tuesday out of the mix.

Here are 18 2022 model-year vehicles that are assembled in North America and therefore immediately eligible for credit, according to a list curated by the Department of Energy:

Another eight 2022 Tesla and General Motors models that meet the assembly requirement would be immediately eligible for the credit if not for the 200,000 units sold cap that is still in effect. The new law removes that cap beginning on Jan. 1, 2023, and those models would then become eligible. They are:

Chevrolet Bolt EV
GMC Hummer Pickup
GMC Hummer SUV
Tesla Model 3
Tesla Model S
Tesla Model X
Tesla Model Y
Three 2023 models are immediately eligible. They are:
BMW 3-series Plug-In
Mercedes EQS
Nissan Leaf
The 2023 Bolt EV and Cadillac Lyriq models would be eligible but for the current manufacturer cap limit.

The Treasury Department is encouraging consumers to also utilize the Department of Transportation’s vehicle identification number tool to ensure that the vehicle they want to purchase meets the assembly requirement.
