House votes to boost penalties against cop killers

Published

The House passed legislation Thursday to increase criminal penalties against people who murder or attempt to murder a police officer or other first responders.

The Thin Blue Line Act passed in a 271-143 bipartisan vote, with the support of a few dozen Democrats and nearly every Republican. If enacted, it would change federal criminal law to trigger death penalty considerations for those who kill or attempt to kill a police officer, firefighter, or other first responder. It would also cover federal, state, and local officials.
