US Naval base in Japan locked down after false alarm

A U.S. Naval base in Sasebo, Japan, is on lockdown Thursday morning local time after reports of gunshots.

The commander of fleet activities posted an emergency message on Facebook around 10:30 p.m. EST warning those on base to take cover.

“On Nov. 3, 2016 at 9:33 a.m. security received a report of gunshots inside building 141 (MCMRON). The building was evacuated. Security and fire are on scene and have established a perimeter. Security is currently clearing the building, please stand by for further information,” the commander wrote.

Approximately an hour later, the commander said the lockdown had been lifted and that there was no evidence of shots fired or an active shooter.
