‘It moved the dial none’: CNN’s John King unimpressed by latest impeachment testimony

CNN’s John King diminished the value of the House Judiciary Committee hearings on Wednesday. The committee brought in four legal scholars to give their professional opinion about whether or not President Trump committed an impeachable offense as he pushed Ukrainian officials to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Democrats have summoned Noah Feldman, a Harvard Law School professor, Stanford Law professor Pamela Karlan, a former Obama administration Justice Department official, Michael Gerhardt, a University of North Carolina law school professor, and George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley.

During the hearing’s first break, CNN’s Jake Tapper deemed the first two hours of their testimony “pretty dry stuff.” As the panel discussed the testimony, Gloria Borger called Karlan’s rebuke of ranking member Rep. Doug Collins “very effective.”

Tapper then asked John King if the testimony would influence voters throughout the country.

“We have not seen that so far,” King answered. “To your point, no offense to the legal team, the witness testimony laying out the facts, those were very compelling witnesses, and it moved the dial none. Will making the case, will having these very smart attorneys, especially the ones on the Democratic side, saying go back to the constitutional convention, go back to the framers, go back to The Federalist Papers, this is what they were worried about.”
