Schumer celebrates Buffalo Bills win before addressing Australia shooting: ‘Go Bills!’

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is receiving pushback for celebrating the NFL’s Buffalo Bills’ victory on Sunday after saying he would discuss the shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia.

Sunday’s shooting saw two gunmen open fire on a Jewish event in Bondi Beach, killing at least 15 people on the first day of Hanukkah. Schumer said he would address the shooting during his press conference, which was being held to address alleged price gouging by Instacart through artificial intelligence.

“So, and first, of course, as I always say, no matter what, go Bills! They beat the [New England] Patriots today, it’s a big deal,” Schumer said.

Many users on X condemned Schumer’s celebration of the Bills’ 35-31 win. Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) shared footage of Schumer’s comment and said the senator should “immediately” retire.

“What the actual…” Washington Examiner contributing writer Joe Concha said on X.

“This is the best the Democrats can do?” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) said on X.

“How do you do, fellow humans!” Grabien founder Tom Elliott said on X.

On the shooting itself, Schumer deemed antisemitism “a scourge around the world,” and the shooting shows “the abject danger of letting antisemitic propaganda, rhetoric, and action go unchecked.” He also mourned the shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and said he would think of the victims of both shootings as he lit the menorah for the first night of Hanukkah.

BROWN UNIVERSITY SHOOTING VICTIMS’ IDENTITIES REVEALED

A bystander at the Australia shooting, identified as Ahmed el Ahmed, confronted and disarmed one of the shooters when he tackled him from behind. The 43-year-old fruit shop owner is being heralded for his actions on social media.

The Washington Examiner contacted Schumer’s office for comment.
