Sen. Kennedy hopes ‘hysterical folks will pop Zoloft’ after Trump-Pelosi White House fracas

Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy called for calm on both sides of the aisle after the Wednesday night blowup at the White House between President Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying the fracas over Syria policy was “not cool.”

“You know, things are pretty stirred up and between the Syria issue and the impeachment issue. Now we’ve got off, we’ve got a lot of things to deal with, the budget being one, NAFTA too being another,” Kennedy, 67, told reporters Thursday. “My hope is that over time, things will settle down and the hysterical folks will pop Zoloft and chill — better living through chemistry.”

Trump called Pelosi a “third-rate politician,” when Democratic leadership met with the president at the White House on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing circumstances in northern Syria related to the Kurds and Turkey.

The meeting, which Democrats say they left after the blowup between the Trump and the Pelosi occurred, happened immediately following a bipartisan nonbinding resolution vote condemning the president for withdrawing troops from the area, leading to Turkey’s invasion.

Both the speaker and the president accused one another of having “meltdowns” at the White House meeting.

“There are just too many people up here who hate each other and what happened at the White House yesterday between the speaker and the president? That’s not cool. That was very uncool. I know. I understand,” Kennedy said. “The speaker got pissed at the president and the president got pissed off with the speaker. And that happens sometimes, but, you know, you’ve got to control your emotions.”
