President-elect Joe Biden will unveil the last of his top four Cabinet this week.
Biden, the two-term vice president and 36-year Delaware senator, will name his nominee-designate for defense secretary on Friday, according to pool reports. He was less specific about when he would announce his choice for attorney general, but he said he planned to do so this week.
Biden is facing growing pressure from his broad coalition to select minority candidates given his secretary of state and treasury nominee-designates are both white.
Biden picked longtime foreign policy aide Tony Blinken as his incoming administration’s prospective chief diplomat, while Janet Yellen is his choice to head the Treasury Department. If confirmed by the Senate, the former Federal Reserve chairwoman will be the first woman to hold the post.
Biden last week declined to commit to naming minority nominee-designates for the roles.
“Commitment of what I just said: it will be the most diverse Cabinet and the main spots in both White House, as well as the Cabinet positions,” he told reporters in Wilmington, Delaware.
