Maryland’s governor named the members of a panel to review the effects of drilling in the Marcellus Shale in Western Maryland. O’Malley said the commission would review the “best practices, and appropriate changes, if any, to the laws and regulations concerning oil and gas.” The commission will be headed by David Vanko, a geologist and dean of the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics at Towson University. The Marcellus Shale is the largest-known natural gas reservoir in the country.
